april non-resolutions

i am a planner and a list maker. i love setting goals, writing them down, and giving myself steps to follow. however, i’m typically not a follow-through-er. terrible, terrible attribute. if you read back in this blog, you know that i often make myself goals, but hardly ever reach them. mat has even accused me of never finishing what a start. ugh! what? me!? never... well. okay. maybe. mat’s example is always this painting that i started way back when we first starting spending more time together (but we weren’t even remotely dating yet) in 2010. he finished about two paintings, and i was still on measly number one. granted, he was painting simple stencil shapes, and i was trying to transfer a picture i took in italy to canvas. painting a realistic looking pictures is a heck of a lot harder than it looks! ah well. case in point, the unfinished painting is in one of our closets. and so the story goes...

but alas, it is a new month! and if you’ve read back in the blog, you know that i am all about new beginnings. we are approaching the 1/3 mark of 2012. if things had gone as planned, i’d be running a 5k in about 3 weeks, working out 3 times a week, and my laundry would be all caught up. here’s a little bit of reality: i have run probably a total of 5 times since the new year. i typically work out twice a week, but that is just going to dance, which was not included in my 3-times-a-week plan. laundry is not caught up. end of story. embarrassing.

i should say that is the reason i don't follow through. "because as far as I'M concerned, i'm perfect the way i am!" oh, that calvin.

i will, however, say this! the heat is slowly coming back, the sun is slowly starting to rise earlier, and i am slowly getting a spring back in my step. now, i realize that the likeliness of me following through is low, and not expected from most. but i would like nothing more than to look back on april and finally say, “i did it.”

tangent! it is a relevant tangent, however... so yesterday i was exploring instagram, since the creators of instagram finally released an android version (holler!) and i am officially part of the uber-cool community. anywho, i came across a picture that one of my friends liked, and the person's name who posted it and the person's name in the picture were both vaguely familiar. naturally, i proceeded to go stalker and click away until i indeed comfirmed that these people were part of a family that lived next door to me once upon a time. I was good friends with the two kids in the family for the entire month that they lived next door, until they moved to utah. apparently they found their way back to arizona, just not near me. i ended up coming across a blog that the kids of the family started together, and it is hilarious! but in one of the posts i read, they talk about how lame it is when people go on and on about how much weight they're going to lose, how many miles they're going to run, etc. etc. at the beginning of the year. and even though i am totally guilty, i kind of agree! especially based on my track record that i have divulged above, i'm not a follow-through-er by nature. why make such ridiculous goals if i'm not going to stick it out?

now back on topic, i had originally planned to lay out some april resolutions in this post, as i often do at the beginning of any month. but after reading that blog, i have decided that one resolution would be rather fitting for me at this point in time. so, without further ado (yes, i googled that phrase to make sure i spelled it correctly), my one and only april resolution...

finish something. anything. from the very beginning, to the very end.

wish me luck, folks. as you can see, i'm gonna need it.
(in case you were wondering, i didn't name the long lost family that inspired me to not make april resolutions because i am thuroughly embarassed that i became an insta-stalker, and shortly after, a blog-stalker. and for that same reason, i did not start following them via instagram or blogger, or any other means of social networking... just in case you were wondering.)
