a few months ago, we came home from work and went to the back door to let gracie in, only to find the sliding door open, and gracie excitedly coming down the hallway to greet us. what the heck? mat was quick to accuse me of leaving the door open when i put her outside that morning, and i was quick to deny any wrong doing. who the heck leaves the back door open and unlocked when leaving for the day? anyways, the next day mat put gracie outside, and again we came home to the back door open, and gracie inside. we were completely perplexed!
the other night, mat was hanging out with one of mission companions who was visiting, and i decided to stay home and go to bed early. around midnight, gracie woke me up to let her out. i let her out, closed the door, and plopped down on the couch to wait for her to finish her business. i was expecting to her a whimper or bark letting me know she was ready to come back in, but instead i heard the back door sliding open, and open my eyes to see her trotting happily towards me.
well, yesterday i finally decided to figure out how the crap she was opening our locked back door to let herself in. after she had been outside for awhile, i set up a camera, then mat and i hid in the hallway, blocked by the couches, and waited. we were able to sneak around and readjust camera angles a couple times, but this is what we found.
we decided to take some extra precautions to make sure that she can't wiggle the lock open in the future. but you've got to admit, you were impressed. we've got ourselves a clever dog. you go gracie, you go.
